But I still carry pet wipes, extra pads, paper towels, etc. Other than that initial freak out potty, we've never had a trouble in the airport / on board. It's a lot of work, but less than cleaning up a sh!tty kitty in an airport bathroom. Then we get them out, put them in the room with their litter box for 10 minutes right before we leave. So we've started putting down pads in their carrier and putting them in there, in the running car, at least an hour before we leave. Sometimes though, that's still not enough and they go potty in their carrier as soon as they realize we're in the car traveling. We take away their food and water 12 hours beforehand. Pet carriers can be a maximum of 18.5 long x 8.5 high x 13.5. We use Feliway calming spray but not sure it actually makes a difference. Southwest Airlines allows small dogs and cats that can be carried in a pet carrier in the cabin. Worth a try ahead of time as it does have a sedative effect on some cats, but not ours apparently. We tried dye/flavor-free kids Benadryl at the proper dose for cats, but it did nothing except make them drool and dramatically act like we just poisoned them for 5 minutes. Our vet said no to any sort of sedative but have read online others have not. You may even want to drive them around in the car a few times too, again, just to familiarize them with the process and you with their reaction.
